║ GT-HELP ║ GTNEWUSR.BBS - shown to new users on their first call
╚═════════╩════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
The GTNEWUSR.BBS file is shown to users who are logging on for the
FIRST time.
It is a plain text file with no special requirements, and you may
therefore edit it as you wish. GT will however perform certain
substitutions if requested.
For example, you could begin with a line like :
"Hello "F", welcome to Grapevine UK."
That would display the first name as part of the message.

Most of the callers will already have logged on to other GT boards,
and will probably not be interested in reading tons of detailed
information. But some of your callers may never have called a
board before and will need more detailed instruction.
Here's an example of how to use the MORE prompt to satisfy both
types of caller.
If you decide to copy it as it stands, don't forget to change the
board name !
========================================================================
That was easy ... now there's another choice of viewing :
a) if you have already logged on to several *other* GT systems and don't
need detailed instructions, just use the access password PUBLIC (or
one of the netmail passwords) and answer N to the MORE prompt.
b) otherwise, press RETURN when the MORE prompt appears, and you
will be given more detailed instructions.
"Hello "F", welcome to Grapevine UK."
This is one of many GT Power bulletin boards worldwide. You will
shortly find out, if you don't already know, what a bulletin board can
do. But first, we have to get you logged in.
In a moment, the system will ask you for an ACCESS password. If you
have already been given one, please use it -- otherwise, the password
PUBLIC will get you in.
You will also be asked to choose a new password of your own. For this
you may choose any convenient word or phrase -- it can be a combination
of letters or numbers, but it cannot have spaces in it. It is best to
choose something that *you* can remember but others would be unlikely
to guess.
OK, the two password questions are coming up, but first a quick reminder:
a) After entering your location (which must have at least TWO words,
the next question should be answered by the access password, if you
have already been given one, or the word PUBLIC
b) The second password is a different password of your own choice
which you will use in future.
